Want your face to stay consistent in every photo?
A personal AI model learns your facial features from your photos to create images that look like you.
Setup: Train a PhotoGPT personal model using 12–15 photos of yourself.
Best for: Solo portraits, repeat shoots, and creating 10+ images with a consistent look.
Just need one quick Diwali photo?
This method uses an existing photo as a reference instead of training a personal AI model.
Setup: Upload one reference photo to PhotoGPT, ChatGPT, or Gemini.
Best for: Creating one quick image using a reference photo and a prompt.
Watch out: Faces may look different across multiple images, especially in group photos.
For multiple images, train a personal model on 12-15 clear photos of just you: close-ups and waist-up shots, varied days and light, no sunglasses, no other faces. Include 2 in warm indoor light, the light every Diwali prompt asks for.
You can copy these prompts directly when using your personal model. With a single uploaded photo, add this line to the end:
Keep the face, skin tone, hairline and facial features exactly as in the reference photo. Do not slim, lighten or reshape the face.Want a quicker option?
The Diwali preset sets up festive styling. Just add the lighting and style details from any prompt below into it.
How to make your Diwali photos look more realistic
Most AI Diwali images fail on light, not outfits. Diya light is small, warm, and low, so it hits your face from below and the side, not from a softbox above.
Build every Diwali prompt with three light layers, the same 3-layer idea from our portrait lighting prompt guide:
- Key light: where the warm light on the face comes from ("soft warm glow from a row of clay diyas at chest height").
- Background light: what glows behind you ("out-of-focus string lights and paper lanterns").
- Color control: how warm, and what keeps skin natural ("warm 2700K tones, natural skin texture, no orange cast").
The third layer matters most: "golden" and "warm" alone push skin orange.
Bad vs good prompt
Bad image: Vague prompt results in harsh orange lighting and less natural-looking skin.
Bad: Beautiful girl celebrating Diwali, diyas, fireworks, 8K, ultra realistic, cinematicGood image: Detailed prompt creates softer lighting, natural skin tones, and a more realistic festive portrait.
Good: Waist-up portrait of a woman in a deep red Banarasi silk saree with gold zari border, sitting on a marble floor beside a row of lit clay diyas, soft warm glow from the diyas lighting her face from below and to the left, out-of-focus string lights behind her, 85mm lens, shallow depth of field, warm 2700K tones, natural skin texture, no orange castThe good prompt describes fabric, light source, direction, lens, and color temperature.
Solo portrait prompts (1-8)
Use these solo prompts with a trained personal model or a single reference photo to create festive portraits indoors and outdoors.
1. Anarkali with floating diyas
Want that classic Diwali look? Let the floating diyas frame the Anarkali portrait without filling the background with extra decorations.
Waist-up portrait of a woman in an ivory and gold anarkali suit kneeling beside a brass urli bowl of water with floating diyas and marigold petals, warm light from the floating diyas on her face from below, dark wooden room softly out of focus behind her, 85mm lens, warm 2700K tones, natural skin texture2. Pair an emerald green lehenga with lanterns and fairy lights while city lights glow in the background.

Kurta and diya on the doorstep
This gives the portrait a festive moment, with the diyas on the doorstep adding a natural Diwali touch.
Medium shot of a man in an ivory silk kurta with a Nehru jacket in maroon, crouching to place a lit diya on the front steps of a suburban house at dusk, marigold garland on the door frame, warm light from the diya on his face, cool blue evening sky, 35mm lens, candid moment, natural skin textureTip: Warm diya light stands out more against cooler colors, so keep one cool element, like the blue sky here, in dusk prompts.
4. Bandhgala portrait for LinkedIn-safe festive posts
Festive edits don't have to be flashy. A bandhgala portrait keeps your Diwali look traditional and professional enough for LinkedIn.
Head-and-shoulders portrait of a man in a navy bandhgala with a small brass button line, standing in front of a softly blurred wall of warm string lights, clamshell lighting with a warm fill, calm confident expression, 85mm lens, clean and professional festive portrait, natural skin textureTip: This prompt uses soft studio-style lighting instead of diya lighting, making it a better fit for a professional profile photo.
5. Rangoli from above
The rangoli adds bright colors and detail without distracting from you creating it.
Overhead shot of a woman in a yellow cotton saree kneeling and finishing a colorful flower-and-powder rangoli on a stone courtyard floor, small diyas placed around the rangoli edge, soft evening light, vivid pink, orange and blue powder colors, her face turned up toward the camera and smiling, 24mm lens6. Sparkler portrait
Try a sparkler portrait that captures the moment the sparks light up your black kurta and cast a glow across your face.
Close-up portrait of a man in a black kurta holding a lit sparkler at arm's length in a backyard at night, sparks creating a soft glow on one side of his face, dark background with faint string lights, 50mm lens, slight motion trail on the sparks, natural skin textureTip: Keeping the sparkler away from the face may help reduce distorted fingers and facial details.
7. Akash kandil and window light
The purple Paithani saree meets the warm glow of an akash kandil.
Portrait of a woman in a purple Paithani silk saree standing by a window where a paper akash kandil lantern hangs, warm lantern glow on her face from above right, soft cool dusk light through the window from the left, marigold toran above the window, 85mm lens, calm festive mood8. PhotoGPT's two-character model is designed to keep both faces recognizable in couple photos. It is trained on side-by-side composite grids of individual photos of both people, not couple shots. Name who is on which side in your prompt so outfits don't swap.
9. Lighting diyas together
Lighting diyas together is the cutest tradition that never goes out of style.
Medium shot of a man and a woman sitting side by side on a living room floor, lighting a row of clay diyas together, on the left he wears a sage green kurta, on the right she wears a coral silk saree, warm diya glow on both faces, soft string lights behind them, 50mm lens, candid smiles10. Wide shot of a man and a woman on a rooftop at night watching fireworks, seen from slightly behind and to the side, she wears a royal blue lehenga, he wears a white kurta pajama, fireworks lighting the sky in gold and pink, their faces lit by the glow, 35mm lensTip: The behind-and-to-the-side angle hides small face errors, so try this first with a single upload.
11. Rangoli portrait
Want a Diwali couple shot that feels real, not posed? This prompt gives you two people laughing across a rangoli, lit by a ring of glowing diyas.
Medium shot of a man and a woman kneeling on either side of a finished rangoli, looking at each other and laughing, diyas around the rangoli edge, she wears a mustard yellow saree, he wears a navy kurta, overhead warm light and diya glow, 35mm lens12. First Diwali together card
Portrait of a man and a woman standing close in a doorway decorated with a marigold garland and a toran, she wears a maroon silk saree, he wears a beige sherwani, warm string lights framing the doorway, clean space above their heads for text, 50mm lensFamily and group prompts (13-16)
Group photos are more likely to have these problems.
- In our tests, images with 3-4 people produced more consistent results. Adding more people may cause faces to blend together or look alike.
- Describe each person by position and outfit ("on the left, a grandmother in a white and gold saree").
- Give everyone one shared action, like lighting one diya together.
- Need everyone's real face? Restyle a real family photo with PhotoGPT's AI photo editor: upload it and prompt only the setting ("add diyas along the floor and warm string lights behind, keep every face unchanged").
13. Three generations, one diya
Use this prompt to create a warm family portrait: grandmother in white and gold, mother in teal silk, daughter in pink, all sharing one light.
Medium shot of three generations of an Indian family on a sofa in a warmly lit living room, on the left a grandmother in a white and gold saree, in the center a mother in a teal silk saree, on the right a teenage daughter in a pink lehenga, all three holding one lit diya together, string lights behind, 35mm lens, natural skin texture14. Friends Diwali party
Create a candid Diwali photograph of the friends celebrating together.

Puja table portrait
Sometimes the best festive pictures are the ones that don't look posed.
Medium shot of a woman and her father seated at a small Lakshmi puja table with brass lamps, flowers and a thali, both with hands folded, warm lamp light on their faces, soft background of marigold garlands, 50mm lens, calm respectful moodDiwali in a new city or at work (17-18)
In the US, Diwali often means a small apartment, a campus event, or an office potluck. Swap in your own city ("Chicago skyline," "Jersey City waterfront") to make these yours.
17. First Diwali in a new city
Portrait of a man in a rust-colored kurta sitting on the windowsill of a small city apartment, a few diyas on the sill beside him, a big-city skyline at dusk outside the window, warm diya light on his face and cool blue window light, 50mm lens, quiet reflective mood18. Office Diwali potluck
Candid medium shot of a woman in a teal Indo-western kurta set holding a plate of mithai at an office Diwali potluck, coworkers blurred in the background, paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling, bright soft office light with warm accents, 35mm lensCard and social prompts (19-20)
Leave intentional negative space in the frame when generating images for WhatsApp greetings or vertical social stories.
19. Diwali greeting card with text space
This works if you are creating a WhatsApp or Instagram greeting rather than simply posting a portrait.
Portrait of a woman in a magenta silk saree holding a brass diya at chest height, positioned in the lower right third of the frame, the upper left filled with soft out-of-focus warm lights and empty space for a greeting, marigold petals on the floor, 85mm lensTip: Without a named empty zone, models fill the whole frame. To add your greeting and print it, follow our walkthrough on turning a photo into a greeting card.
20. Instagram story frame
Vertical full-length photo of a man in a black and gold sherwani walking toward the camera down a street lined with string lights and hanging lanterns, fireworks faint in the sky above, space at the top and bottom of the frame for story text, 35mm lensDetails that make saree, kurta, and jewelry look real
- Name the fabric and weave. "Banarasi silk," "Paithani," or "mirror work" gives the model real textures. "Traditional dress" gives you a costume.
- Name 1 or 2 colors, not 5. "Deep red with a gold zari border" beats a rainbow list.
- Keep jewelry to one statement piece, like "small gold jhumkas," unless you want a bridal look.
- Say how the fabric falls, like "pallu over the left shoulder," to avoid odd drapes.
Where festive prompts break, and the fix for each
| What you see | Why it happens | Change this in the prompt |
|---|---|---|
| Warped or extra fingers around a sparkler or diya | Hands holding small glowing objects are hard for image models | Say which hand holds it, add "other hand relaxed at her side," keep the object away from the face |
| Flames floating in midair or doubled | "Diyas around her" gives no surface to rest on | Put every flame on something: "row of clay diyas on the marble floor," "diya on the windowsill" |
| Fireworks wash out the face | Fireworks become the brightest light in the frame | Keep fireworks "in the background sky" and light the face with a warm diya or window fill |
| Rangoli patterns look blurry or messy | Too many colors and no pattern named | Name 2-3 colors and a shape: "symmetrical lotus rangoli in pink, orange and blue" |

Frequently asked questions
Can I make Diwali photos with Gemini or ChatGPT?
Yes, for one or two images. Upload one recent, front-facing photo in even light, paste any prompt above, and add the identity line from the setup section. You can try PhotoGPT's ChatGPT model or Gemini model to get started. Start with solo prompts. Couple and group scenes drift most. For a full matching set, a trained personal model holds your features more consistently.
Do I need a personal model for Diwali photos?
Not for one or two images. You need one for 10 or more images that all look like you, or consistent couple photos. Training runs once, then every prompt starts from your face. PhotoGPT plans include 3 model trainings on Starter, 5 on Hobby, and 10 on Pro, so one plan can cover you, your partner, and a parent.
Is PhotoGPT free for Diwali photos?
You can start creating for free from the dashboard and try the Diwali preset before paying. Personal model training and larger batches run on paid plans, with 6-month billing at $99.99 for Starter (5,000 credits a month), $149.99 for Hobby (9,000), and $199.99 for Pro (16,000). Check the pricing page for current offers before you start.
Are my photos private when I train a Diwali model?
Your training photos are used to build your personal model. Only upload photos of yourself, or of people who have agreed to it, and never upload someone else's face without their consent. You can review how PhotoGPT stores and deletes images in its privacy policy and account settings.
Can I use AI Diwali photos for my business?
Small businesses often use festive images for Diwali sale posts, menus, and cards. Use images of yourself or people who agreed to appear, avoid brand logos you don't own, and check PhotoGPT's terms for commercial use on your plan before you print or post.
