The PhotoGPT Dashboard at a Glance

When you log in for the first time, you will see the main dashboard. This is where you access the key tools:

  • Manage Models: In this tab, you can train your AI twin to generate portraits and headshots.
  • Image Generation: Here you can use your own trained models or in-built models curated by our team for generating images in any setting with the power of text prompt and/or presets like professional, cinematic, fantasy, and more.
  • AI Photo Editor: This tool allows you to edit and enhance any photo you upload or have generated previously.

Take your pick here, whether you want to start by training a model, generating with an existing model, or editing a photo, and proceed accordingly.

Step 1: Sign Up and Access Your Workspace

  1. Create an account or sign in with your preferred method.
  2. Once signed in, you will land on the PhotoGPT dashboard.
  3. In the sidebar on your left, you will see navigation options for:

Step 2: Create Your First AI Model

Training a personal model lets PhotoGPT understand how you look, so we can generate hyper-realistic portraits that stay consistent across different styles and shoots.

Uploading Input Images

To create a model:

  1. Go to the Manage Models tab.
  2. Click and follow the steps to create a new "AI Character".
  3. Upload a set of clear photos of yourself.

Use this simple checklist for best results:

  • 12-15 photos that clearly show your face and no other people.
  • Good lighting and sharp focus.
  • A mix of angles (front, slight left/right), backgrounds, and outfits.
  • Avoid any filters, sunglasses, or photos where your face is very small in the frame.

For a deeper breakdown of what works best, see Selecting the Ideal Input Images.

After you upload and confirm, your model will start training. This usually completes within 15-20 mins. You can continue exploring other guides while it finishes.

Step 3: Generate Your First Headshot

Once your model is trained, you can use it in the Image Generation tab to create portraits and profile photos.

Basic Generation Flow

  1. Go to Image Generation tab in your dashboard.
  2. Select your recently trained model from the "Model" dropdown on the left.
  3. Choose a preset from "Preset" dropdown and/or add a short prompt describing your desired look.
  4. Select the number of images you want to generate.

Then click Generate. PhotoGPT will create a batch of portraits that you can download, save as favorite or edit for a finishing touch.

For more headshot-specific ideas, you can explore related content in the Gallery and presets.

Step 4: Explore Presets and Themed Shoots

As mentioned previously, presets are curated styles that bundle together lighting, color, mood and composition. They help you match specific goals quickly, such as:

  • Professional or corporate headshots.
  • Content creator / influencer looks.
  • Seasonal themes (festive, Christmas, Halloween, Black Friday, etc.).
  • Cinematic, fantasy, or character-inspired shoots.
  • And much more.

How to Use Presets

  1. Go to Image Generation tab and select the theme you want from the Preset dropdown.
  2. Select your own model or generate with one of the free built-in models.
  3. Optionally add a short prompt to control details like background, lighting, or outfit.

This is the fastest way to create a complete shoot in a specific vibe, without designing everything from scratch.

Step 5: Perform Professional Edits to your photos with the AI Photo Editor

Our Image Editing toolkit lets you adjust and transform any photo, whether it was clicked in real life or generated by PhotoGPT.

Common things you can do:

  • Refine portraits with subtle face and skin corrections.
  • Change or clean backgrounds.
  • Match lighting and color to a specific mood.
  • Create variations of the same photo (different crops, compositions, or scenes).

Basic Editor Flow

  1. Open AI Image Editing from the dashboard.
  2. Upload a photo or choose one from your recent generations.
  3. Pick the mode you want to use (retouch/combine/adjust/filters).
  4. If needed, add a brief prompt to describe the desired change.
  5. Hit Generate to get a polished image in a few seconds. You can compare the results with original image, save within the PhotoGPT dashboard or download for your use case.

The Role of Prompts in PhotoGPT

Prompts tell the AI how to style your image. They work across both Image Generation and AI Image Editing. You do not need to be a prompt expert to get good results, but small changes can make a big difference.

For a complete guide with examples, you can refer to our guide on How to Write Prompts.

Best Practices and FAQs

If your first generations do not look quite right, here are a few simple checks:

  • Faces look inconsistent or distorted
Add more clear, varied photos to your model. Avoid blurry or filtered images.

  • Style is not what you expected
Simplify your prompt to reduce too many adjectives or try a different preset (you can reach out on our discord community for quick assist on how to pick the style best suited for your use case).

  • Background looks cluttered
Add phrases like minimal background, clean studio, or shallow depth of field to your prompt.

  • You want more control
Increase the "Steps" variable for higher prompt adherence and generate again, or refine the generated image inside the AI Photo Editor.
